This is not an exhaustive list of web resources. Unfortunately many sites come and go or worse, never get updated after the initial burst of enthusiasm. Others are too heavy with animations, music, sound or banners which detracts from the content.

Resistance in Occupied Europe

18 June 1940 : General de Gaulle entered the pages of history with his BBC broadcast from London to the French people calling on them to resist the invader: "The flame of French resistance must not go out and will not be extinguished!" On the 18 June 2002 the English version of the site went live.

The Shetland Bus

The only website specifically commemorating what became known as 'The Shetland Bus', a Shetland based boat operation to and from Norway, that took place during the Second World War (1939 - 1945) and ferried agents into Norway. The site is built by the schoolchildren of Scalloway Junior High School, Scalloway, Shetland Isles. In Norwegian, French and English.

The Norwegian Resistance Museum

Norway's Resistance Museum is housed in an old protected building in Akershus Castle Oslo, adjoining the memorial at the spot where Norwegian patriots were executed by the Germans during the second world war. In Norwegian and English.

The Museum is the main Danish museum on the period of the German occupation of Denmark. The exhibition depicts the developments 1940-45 and focuses on the Danish resistance movement. Marthe Janssen-Leyder

When Belgium was occupied by the Germans in 1940, Marthe Janssen-Leyder joined the local Underground Resistance (the Secret Army). She was intelligent, resourceful and courageous, often ignoring the danger to herself and her family, and was instrumental in helping a large number of allied soldiers and airmen escape and return home to their families. This is her story.

The UK Genesis Project

The Genesis project is a mapping initiative, funded by the Research Support Libraries Programme to identify and develop access to women's history sources in the British Isles.

The Genesis project is part of the UK Womens Library. The Women's Library is a new cultural centre, housing the most extensive collection of women's history in the UK.
